RECEPTIONIST

About the Role

This is not your typical receptionist role!

A typical day at GVH will see you performing many varied tasks, such as:

  • Greeting clients & patients as they arrive,
  • Handling client enquires via phone, email and in person,
  • Managing the day-to-day patient appointment scheduling and triaging,
  • Keeping the public areas such as reception and consulting rooms neat and tidy, as well as cleaning up that occasional nervous puppy mess on the floor,
  • Processing payments via EFTPOS, credit card, cash and through Vetpay,
  • Physical ability to handle and lift up to 15kgs (either animals that have to be carried, or stock items like large bags of food),
  • Sale of products such as over the counter medications, animal care products, enrichment, and equipment
  • Utilising your administrative skills to assist with daily tasks assigned to you,
  • Working closely with your colleagues, especially with the vets and nurse.

Working Hours

You can expect to work a minimum 25-30 hours per week Monday to Friday but could be up to 38 hours per week depending on shift availability, which includes up to every second Saturday. Our day shifts are on a rotating roster with a start time as early as 7.45am and a finish time of 7.30pm, with a shift change at 2pm. You must be able to work these times to fit into our roster.

This is a permanent part-time role; you will be paid an hourly rate and receive all entitlements as per the National Employment Standards and the award.

Our Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Exceptional customer service skills,
  • High emotional intelligence: Ability to self-manage in a fast-paced environment with the ability to be show empathy and be sensitive to an ill pet, as well as its concerned owner.
  • Excellent time management and ability to take initiative.
  • Proactive approach to work and the interactions you have with clients and colleagues.
  • The knowledge, ability, and confidence to handle many types of animals.
  • Previous experience working in a receptionist or customer service role, (previous veterinary receptionist experience will be an advantage)
  • Previous experience with medical terminology (advantageous, however not required as you will be trained)
  • Willingness to make a long-term commitment to the role.
  • Strong administrative skills: Ability to manage office operations such as taking messages, scheduling appointments, and maintaining patient files,
  • Competent working with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook as well as have the capability to learn new systems relevant to the Vet Industry such as Vision for our online scheduling and patient files.

VETERINARY NURSE

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Nurse to join our amazing team working with 12 vets in our purpose-built general practice hospital where you will have exposure to both our Gungahlin Veterinary Hospital and our Cat Hospital at the same premises. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain exposure to a variety of different animals and responsibilities, and work on all the cool stuff like oesophageal foreign bodies, surgeries and complicated procedures will be a normal day at the office, as well as dental work and general nursing.

This is a permanent part-time role.

Working hours are rostered between the hours of 7:30 to 19:00 Mondays – Fridays and 8:00 to 16:00 on rotated Saturdays.

The successful candidate for this role must be available to start shifts no later than 7:30am. It is a requirement to be available to work Saturdays on rotation with other nurses (i.e. not every Saturday).  The working hours can be up to 38 hours per week but may be less depending on demand.

Our ideal candidate

We are looking for someone who can tick the following boxes:

  • Must have a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing
  • Over 1 years of nursing experience 
  • exceptional customer service skills,
  • high emotional intelligence,
  • excellent time management,
  • excellent attendance record and reliability,
  • the ability to work varied tasks that are constantly interrupted yet concluded,
  • the ability and confidence to handle many types of small animals, up to large dogs,
  • communication skills to communicate with all personality types and always remain professional even under stressful situations,
  • great teamwork approach and professionalism to strengthen the GVH team,
  • willingness to make a long-term commitment to the role.
