I’m one of the lucky ones who know what they want as a job, and manage to succeed in that goal. I wanted to be a vet from the age of 4, and my dream came to fruition in 1981. I’ve been a vet in Canberra since 1983 (except for 12 months in Gundaroo and 2 and a half years in the UK), and started Gungahlin Veterinary Clinic with my wife Ronnie in 1995. For 6 years we practiced from our home in Nicholls, until the growing practice, including partner Tony Wilson and Specialist Surgeon Sarah Webb, moved into the current hospital in 2002 and changed our name to Gungahlin Veterinary Hospital.
My chief interests are the welfare, medicine and behaviour of animals. I believe that preventative veterinary medicine, especially in regards to behaviour, will enhance quality of life and reduce suffering for companion animals. While the profession has long practiced this in relation to vaccinations and worming, at GVH we concentrate on weight control, dental health, avoiding recognisable risks, and especially selecting and raising young animals to fit into your family and the community.
I’m particularly interested in endocrinology (“hormones”), oncology (cancer medicine), imaging (radiology), and behavioural medicine.
I’ve been very fortunate to have my family working beside me for many years. My wife, Ronnie, was the practice’s first nurse and then morphed into a practice administrator. My eldest daughter Bronwyn worked as an ICU veterinary nurse in university teaching hospitals in Melbourne and the UK, but now works as a Spiritual Care and Wellbeing Coordinator at Baptcare (Melbourne). My second daughter Pippa works part time as a nursing assistant while juggling three small children and husband.
Away from the practice I sit in various committees of the Australian Veterinary Association, and have been a Cat-A (veterinarian) member of a national Animal Ethics Committee for the last 7 years. I chaired the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee of the ACT for 7 years, sat on the Australian Governments Animal Welfare Strategy for more than 6 years, and was a member of the ACT Dog Management Review. I also love scuba diving, and to study Indonesian language, culture and religion.

I grew up on a farm at Mudgee and Graduated from Sydney University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science. I have worked in small animal practice since graduation, initially in Canberra for a year, then as a locum in the UK for 15 months, then seven years in Melbourne before returning to Canberra in 2000.
I joined GVH in 2000 when the practice was in Michael Hayward’s house in Nicholls. Together we planned and built the Hospital at Crinigan circle along with Dr Sarah Webb.
While in Melbourne I worked with a specialist surgeon and completed a 1 year distance education course in surgery. My interest in surgery continues and I do a significant amount of the more complicated surgery. Other interests include radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, hormonal conditions and I really enjoy the interaction and friendship I have with the animals and clients I see every day. I attend conferences at least annually, and have an interest in any continuing education activities.A goal of mine is to make GVH an enjoyable and streamlined practice, striving for consistency and equity in all areas of the practice.I have a young family and appreciate our clients‘ time and financial constraints. My objective is to make it as easy as possible for our clients to give their animals the best care they can provide.

I grew up in Wagga Wagga, before travelling to the University of Sydney to study. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in terrestrial biology in 1996 before graduating with honours in 2002 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science.
After qualifying as a vet, I started work in mixed practice in Braidwood, NSW where I got to experience working with and treating a large range of animals, from horses to mice. I then spent two years in the United Kingdom working as a travelling locum, working in mixed and small practice in glamorous places like Scunthorpe in Lincolnshire and Llanrwst in Nth Wales, interspersed with holidays exploring Europe. On return to Australia, I continued with locum work in Oberon and Townsville for a few months before starting at Gungahlin Vet Hospital in July 2007.
Since starting at GVH, I have continued to enjoy the challenge of small animal surgery and medicine, in particular doing further study in ultrasound, which has allowed more detailed imaging of the abdomen and heart. I have particular interests in cardiology, surgery and diagnostic imaging including endoscopy and am a member of the Australasian Association of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging.
In my time in Canberra, I have also accumulated a naughty Labrador, two cats, a wife, three children and three chickens which interferes somewhat with my rugby obsession. In my spare time, I enjoy alpine skiing, golf, the cinema and try to keep fit at the gym.

Dr Donna Peckett is a born and bred Canberran. In 1994, after graduating from Sydney University with a Bachelor degree in Veterinary Science, she moved to Corowa NSW to work in mixed practice for two years.
In 1996, Donna’s thirst for adventure took her to the UK. Here Donna met her husband Ian and stayed for five years, much longer than the anticipated two. Working at a wide range of practices cemented her decision to concentrate on small animal practice, and in particular fostered a keen interest in feline medicine.
Donna moved back to Canberra in 2001 and joined the GVH team in 2004. Over the years, she has become dedicated to all aspects of small animal medicine, but always with a passion and emphasis on feline medicine where possible. Her dream of working in a feline focused hospital was realized in 2018 when Gungahlin Cat Hospital (GCH) was opened and she gratefully accepted the opportunity to work exclusively in this wonderful facility.
She enjoys every interaction she has with her patients and finds that with a calm, gentle and steady approach even the most reluctant feline can be put at ease. Combining knowledge and understanding of unique feline physiology, instinct and behaviour, GCH patients and their people can be provided with the exceptional health care and advice that they deserve. Donna has a particular soft spot for her geriatric patients and enjoys the challenge of managing their multiple problems to ensure they live out their days comfortably and with dignity.
At home Donna is the proud mum of two teenage boys, a naughty puppy and a simply majestic catto called Chui. She enjoys watching the rugby and reading.

I grew up on a beef and sheep farm near Warrnambool, in Western Victoria. After graduating in Agricultural Science with first class honors and pursuing genetic research for a year, I then went on to study Veterinary Science at both Queensland and Melbourne University, graduating in 1996. I worked in equine and small animal practice for my first few years in Victoria, then moved to Brisbane to work in small animal practice. I took the opportunity to travel to the UK to work on the Foot and Mouth outbreak of 2001 and stayed for 12 months working in disease control and restocking of farms. I traveled home via Europe and Africa and I started working at GVH in the newly opened practice in 2002 and settled in Canberra.
Since starting at GVH, I have developed my interest in small animal ultrasonography of the abdomen and heart after completing further study in 2013. I especially enjoy diagnostic imaging and surgery and continue to pursue and build my skills and interest in these areas.
Besides working at GVH, I also have a full time job with a husband, 3 children, a Labrador and two Burmese cats.
I love to travel when I get the chance and enjoy spending time at the coast, gardening, music and art.

Dr Stephen Fleischer (BVSc) graduated as a Veterinary Surgeon in 2009. His passion for veterinary medicine came slightly later in his career compared to our other vets after spending a long time with our incredible Australian Defence Force.
That being said, Dr. Stephen has been practicing as a veterinarian for 11 years, and has been working at Gungahlin Veterinary Hospital since October 2010. He enjoys working with all creatures great and small, but his companion animal passions lie with internal medicine, rabbit anaesthesia, brachycephalic surgery and medicine, and preventative hip care; being one of few veterinarians in the practice qualified to perform and interpret PennHip imaging and perform JPS surgery.
Outside of work, you will find Stephen leading a pack of three boys and one cavoodle “Bear”. You might also catch him swimming at the local pool, wandering Bunnings or Costco in Crocs and a footy jumper, or engrossed in one of his new gadgets or games.

Eloise grew up in Canberra, and was unwaiveringly passionate about becoming a veterinarian from a very young age.
After finishing school she moved up to Brisbane where she completed a Bachelor of Science (Zoology, Psychology) at the University of Queensland in 1999. She then moved to Sydney in 2000 where she studied Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney, graduating with first class honours in 2004.
With a love of warm weather, horses and the outdoors, she moved back to Queensland after graduation where she completed an internship at an equine referral hospital in Brisbane. Despite her love of horses, she decided to start working in small animal practice in 2006 and has never looked back!
She worked in practices on the Gold Coast ranging from a large, very busy hospital to a two-vet clinic until the end of 2012.
Across the past 5 years, she has travelled to Europe several times including living abroad in Spain for 6 months in 2013 . She has a soft spot for European culture and history and loves to travel overseas and explore whenever the opportunity arises.

I joined GVH in the second half of 2018 as the Practice Manager. I have a background in business, administration and HR management and was thrilled to have the opportunity to combine that with a lifelong love of animals by joining the team at GVH. It is truly a pleasure to come to work each day and be surrounded by dedicated, passionate individuals who are always striving to deliver the best in patient and client care.
As the Practice Manager, I work closely with our lovely Directors (Dr Michael Hayward and Dr Tony Wilson) in the day-to-day management of the hospital. Each day brings something different, and it is certainly never boring!
I have a sidekick – Wally, a senior pomeranian who I adopted when he was about 10 years old, who packs a huge amount of personality into a tiny body. I also enjoy keeping active and being outdoors – my hobbies include hiking, gardening (particularly anything edible!) and yoga.

Our trained and dedicated nurses provide everything from vital surgical assistance to a friendly and reassuring smile when you walk in the door. They’re also responsible for the great care pets enjoy when staying with us for observation or recovery.
I was born in Canberra and from a young age was passionate about wanting to work with animals. I studied my Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing at CIT Bruce and graduated in 2017. I have been working at GVH since June 2016 where I started as a trainee nurse.
Growing up I have had many types of pets including horses, birds, fish, a lamb and the list goes on! I currently have 3 fur babies; 2 dogs “Loui” a silky terrier, “Lady” a bull arab mix and “Harley” a DSH cat. I also have 2 fish and multiple cherry shrimp.
One of my special interests is the challenge of surgical nursing; I love being a patient advocate from preoperative, during surgery to aftercare. It requires organisation, attention to detail, critical thinking and at times can be fast paced needing quick reactions to a patients status. I love that each day challenges me with many patients facing multiple different surgeries.
Caring for injured or sick wildlife is also an area I thoroughly enjoy. Whether its crop feeding a fledgling or treating wounds on an injured wallaby, being able to help wildlife until they find a carer who can nurse them back to health before being released is very rewarding.
It is gratifying for me to know I am there for my patients from start to finish, helping them feel safe in a sometimes-scary place.

When I first started working as a veterinary nurse in 2014, I knew right away that it was something I’d want to do for a long time as I must say, this is a very rewarding career. However, when I started working at the Gungahlin Veterinary Hospital, I fell in love with the job even more. After joining this practice, I have suddenly found passion in surgical procedures and anything involving anaesthetic monitoring and pre/post operative patient care. As a nurse, you build very special bonds with our furry friends and is worth all the hard work and long days.
Putting my love for animals aside, I have a few other interests including spending time with friends and family or enjoying some Netflix shows until I fall asleep (which normally doesn’t take very long). I also like to get crafty and create new things out of old wooden furniture and find it very relaxing.

Growing up in Canberra I knew I always wanted to work with animals; I enrolled in the first CIT course in Bruce for Veterinary Nursing way back in 1994. I worked locally until 1998 until I moved to the Shoalhaven working in mixed practices for 20 years bringing up 2 kids on the coast and had a detour into Pathology collecting. We are now back in Canberra getting used to the icy winters!
I have been working at Gungahlin Veterinary Hospital since 2018 and have found it an amazing supportive environment.
I enjoy every aspect of nursing, after 20 odd years in the industry I have seen many changes but everyday I treat every patient as my own pet. I see myself as a cuddle giver, a dedicated nurse and a voice for all the fur babies.
I have an interest in Dentistry, doing additional training in this field and take great satisfaction in seeing a patient go home with pearly whites. I am also keen on extending my knowledge in Physiotherapy.
I enjoy bush walking, with hubby, kids and our much pampered Rottweiler, Ruby

I have had the pleasure of working at GVH since July 2010. I hold many years experience as a veterinary nurse in this wonderful ever evolving world of veterinary science and i simply cannot imagine doing anything else!
To date my highest academic achievement was that I completed a Diploma in Veterinary nursing (General practice) in 2017 and I also hold my certificate 4 in Veterinary nursing which i first obtained in December 2008 (and updated to current level standard in 2016). In addition to my day to day veterinary nursing tasks. I am also responsible for inventory ordering for GVH. My special interests at work is feline medicine, diagnostic imaging (particularly ultrasound) and developing and maintaining business relationships with veterinary wholesaler representatives.
Being the eldest of 5 daughters, my family is my most treasured aspect of my life. I have had the privilege to be able to grow up in a family circle that is filled with immense love and wisdom. I also had the pleasure of growing up with animals, developed a passion for their welfare and learned to care for them from a very young age. I have always had a strong interest in science and after many backyard experiments (some of which I believe mum and dad would rather forget!), I decided from 12 years old to bind those interests together and pursue a career in the veterinary industry.
I am married to a wonderful husband of 11 years who also happens to be my high school sweetheart and is now a very accomplished financial advisor. We also have an incredibly beautiful (and cheeky!) 2 year old daughter whom we named Arwen after our long standing love affair with Tolkein’s Lord of The Rings.
My family just wouldn’t be complete without my animals at home. I have 2 domestic shorthair black cats- Axel my first RSPCA rescue and wise old man now of 14 years and my 9 year old girl Squeaks whom I adopted from our cat adoption program right from within this very hospital 9 years ago when she was a teeny tiny 5 week old kitten. We also have a lovable (but bit of a loon) 2 year old Staffy called Dozer (he was literally born about a month before Arwen).
I love being a veterinary nurse for so many reasons but mostly I have found it has helped to embody me into the person I am today. The job is unpredictable, its messy, it is stressful at times and often mentally and emotionally challenging. But the reward of that self-satisfaction you feel at the end of the day after you have just saved an animal’s life or have assisted with getting that animal’s life back on track in some way no matter how small warms my heart to its core.
That is the drive that inspires me to keep doing what I do.
I am looking forward to meeting you and your pets!

I’m originally from Sydney, and relocated to Canberra in early 2020 with my husband and our son. I began working at GVH in May.
My veterinary nursing career began in 2011, working in a small, family owned clinic as a sole nurse. I attained my Certificate II in Animal Studies during high school and went on to achieve my Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2013. Although working in veterinary practices varying from small clinics to larger scale hospitals, it wasn’t until I began working at GVH where I’ve been given the opportunity to fully expand and utilise my knowledge and skills as a veterinary nurse.
I have a particular interest in birds, and cats have a special place in my heart. Kevin the Eclectus parrot and Winston the cat keep me busy and make my house a home.

Our receptionists ensure the efficient operation of the practice through the delivery of outstanding customer service and administrative support; they are here to assist you with any questions you may have, to help you make a booking, and assist with the facilitation of puppy classes – amongst many other things!
I have been surrounded by animals all my life, and I feel very fortunate that I have always been accompanied by many pets, especially whilst growing up. From a very young age, my household was filled with dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, ducks, mice, birds, and I also managed to befriend some local kangaroos! Having a great love for all animals runs in the family, as my grandfather was also an Agricultural Vet. Once I was old enough to work, I was able to get a job at a small Horse Riding Park as a farm hand and riding assistant. There, I learnt how to ride and care for horses as well as the other farm animals, and my desire to work within the animal industry began.
I’ve been working as a receptionist at Gungahlin Veterinary Hospital since 2018, and Reception Manager since late 2020. I love that everyday I come to work, our patients always manage to put a smile on my face, and our human clients do just the same! This job gives me such great satisfaction knowing I am able to provide support to our clients during the good and the bad times, as I constantly strive to offer genuine and compassionate care.
Outside of work I’ll be hanging out with my closest friends, listening to music, and frequently travelling to my home town at the South Coast to visit my family and spend time at the beach.

In reception I feel I have found the perfect balance, I am able to help people and still receive as many fluffy cuddles as the heart desires.

I joined the GVH family in December 2019, just in time for a big Christmas rush of dogs, cats and everything in between. I have always had a love for animals, with many pets growing up, but after working in IT for years, I have never had a chance to work with them before GVH. This is the first job I’ve ever had that I can truly say I enjoy. I feel like I can make a difference; helping animals in any capacity is so rewarding.
As you can see pictured, I have a little cat. He is a rescue cat, his name is Watson and I adopted him through the cat adoption program here at GVH soon after starting work here. Along with his brother Wesley (my housemate’s cat), Watson is frequently doing important investigative work all throughout the house.

Kellie loves all animals, this is the number one reason she wanted to work in a Veterinary Hospital. She has a special love for her canine companions as her dad passed on the trait of being a dog lover. Large breed dogs are her absolute favourite, especially her crazy staffy mix, who certainly keeps everyday life interesting for her and husband, John.
Kellie is a former paramedic, so she is no stranger to unpredictable chaos in the workplace, which is why she loves working at GVH as there is never a boring day in this fast-paced industry. As well as being an administrator and occasional receptionist at GVH, she also keeps busy with John’s electrical contracting business. Kellie also has a great love for all of her fellow team members here at the hospital, and she feels very lucky to be able to work with people who have also become her dear friends. Kellie always delivers excellent customer service to our clients and patients, and always manages to leave a smile on their faces with her infectious laugh and positive attitude.
In her spare time you can find Kellie travelling to the coast on weekends with John and Mali to visit her mum (and mum’s dogs, Jesse and Kobi) and spend time at the beach – but they must pay close attention to Mali as he has an addiction to eating sticks, and they don’t agree with him!
